The nursery should be kept thoroughly cultivated, and free from weeds.By regular watering the soil may get hardened,and hence is should be loosened by light digging. The soils in the containers are loosened by digging with a hand-fork. watering of plants, either in the nursery beds or in post, is an important operation. Hand-watering is usually given to nursery beds.  Necessary measures are to adopted for the protection of young nursery plants from winter injury in areas with severe winter.Such measures include the arrangement of plants close together in large groups,provision of a covering and placement of the plants in hot beds or greenhouse. For container-growing plants by placing the container into the roots may by well protected against cold injury. If the plants are kept in pots for a long period they may from an understandable constricted root system from which they may not recover when planted in their permanent location. The plants would be transferred to larger pots before they reach such a pot-pound condition. Adoption of plant-protection measures, well in advance and in a planned manner,is necessary for the successful raising of nursery plants.Regular inspection of nurseries and immediate action against pests and diseases are necessary to reduce the chances of their spread.
